Entrepreneur
I am currently serving as the Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Alaska helping aspiring entrepreneurs begin their journey through the Upstart Alpha accelerator.
I also guide scalable deep tech & hardware companies with in-depth technical & operations expertise, as well as provide consulting & capital to great legacy businesses through BAM Holdings.
Previously, I founded The Launch Company, an aerospace engineering company that delivered standardized hardware and autonomous launch systems for rocket companies participating in the New Space race. The Launch Co. bootstrapped launch pads, as well as flight hardware to space before being acquired by Voyager Space.

Newsletter
I write The Next 30 Trips, a newsletter that explores doing hard things well. From practical matters like how to bootstrap a hardware company, exploring the fine line between scrappy & crappy, to higher-level tricks such as remaining centered in chaos, learning the art of slowing down, and finding ourselves through the journey.
Some of my favorite pieces include:

Memoir
I am also writing The First 30 Trips, a memoir that explores the tension between purpose, career, self-actualization, and burnout. It is a journey that moves from flying cargo across rural Alaska, to helping construct a new launch site on the coast of California, to landing rockets on barges 200 miles out to sea while searching for purpose in work, before turning discovering love, partnership, and a true home after decades of searching.
Alaska & the Arctic
I am passionate about the people of Alaska and our shared future. I grew up flying with my family’s small air cargo company (see at right, passing a volcano with my dad) to deliver supplies and fuel to communities off the road system.
I am intimately aware of both the challenge and the opportunity inherent to a life in Alaska. I love working with people across the state to take on these challenges and am passionate about guiding Alaska through a just transition to a carbon-negative economy that is modern and inclusive.
Further, Alaska is a member of the global Arctic community and collaboration with our circumpolar neighbors is critical. I believe we’re at our best when we work with other Arctic nations to build a better, more sustainable future for us all.
To that end, I support Arctic entrepreneurs, organizers, and passionate citizens who are excited about building sustainable, calm companies & communities in the far north.
